1976 Johnson 135hp - Ignition switch wiring. I'm stumped.

I have a 1976 Johnson 135hp Seahorse outboard. It has a 3 position ignition switch with a separate toggle switch for the choke. I have had trouble with both switches so I purchased an aftermarket Johnson/Evinrude "push to choke switch" hoping to eliminate the extra switch. Now I am having trouble getting the new one hooked up correctly. My wiring is as follows:

The wire cluster from the back of the boat:
Red w/ purple stripe
Black w/ yellow stripe
Purple
Purple w/ white stripe
White (hooked up to a switch in the throttle housing... neutral switch??)

White (from the above ... neutral switch?)
Purple (from a... buzzer/alarm?? in the throttle housing)

The new switch has the following connections:
M
B
M w/ a screwhole instead of a post.
I
C
One that shows both A & S

Anyone with a diagram or some knowledge about this, please help.

Thanks,
Rusty

Re: 1976 Johnson 135hp - Ignition switch wiring. I'm stumped.

Thanks for the info. I don't have a Yellow w/red stripe wire.
I do have a white and an extra purple.
I hooked it up earlier today using the same page that you had sent me. I hooked up the white wire in place of the yellow/red stripe wire.... nothing

There is a plunger type switch in the throttle housing. It looks like it is controlled by the throttle position. Is that the neutral switch? Does it have to be pushed in in order for the starter to turn over.

Thanks,
Rusty

Re: 1976 Johnson 135hp - Ignition switch wiring. I'm stumped.

Figured it out. I had no power from my battery.... the red w/violet stripe wire from the battery quit working. Ran a new wire... now works fine.

The diagram from the above link worked fine.... I just had to hook up my white wire to the S... I did not have a yellow w/ red stripe wire.

Also, the purple wire that was hooked to my old choke toggle switch is now connected to the C on the new "push to choke" ignition switch... and it works great.

Thanks for your help,
Rusty
