picked up a1976 Johnson 15hp motor yesterday. I already cleaned the carb. Checked the compression and seems to be good. The spark seems to be weak on the upper coil. Would this cause the motor to not want to turn over? I tried starting it and it does not even act like it wants to turn over? Any help would be great.

thanks

"seams to be good and appears to be weak" isn't all that helpful. You need to give us the numbers. As far as your spark, get a cheap adjustable spark tester and adjust it to 3/8ths. of an inch and try each plug wire. Spark should jump that gap with a snappy white/blue spark. Anything less will be a weak spark. Turn over to me means the engine rotating or cranking in the case of an electric starter. I think you mean starting when you say turning over. I would suggest putting a little fuel mix in a spray bottle and squirting it into the carb. when your pulling the recoil. If your problem is fuel related it should start but only for a moment as it will use up the sprayed fuel quickly. Let us know how you make out. Best of luck. Rick.
