1976 Johnson 25hp

I pulled off the flywheel for a tune up. I found the cam shaft key had come out. the slot is 1/2 on the cam shaft and 1/2 on cam. They are not in alignment so the key will not fit. How do I align the slots.

Remove ( lift off ) the cam.----Get a new factory key.----Re-assemble.

It should lift / pry off using 2 hefty screwdrivers.

I appreciate your help! I just didnt know how to do it.

Use a wee bit of fine valve grinding compound to clean up the tapers ( flywheel and crankshaft ) for a good fit.----Do this before fitting the new key.
