This engine fires on cyls 1 and 3, will not fire on 2 and 4. Has new stator, timer base and power pack. All coils are good. Compression is good. Can switch sensor wires from 1 and 3 to 2 and 4, it fires 2 and 4 and drops out 1 and 3. This problem all started when a shop put on the wrong rectifier and burned up the tachometer wire. Has not run well since. It ran with one cyl not firing and hit intermittently, now will only fire on cyls 1 and 3. It will fire plugs on 2 and 4 when not in the cylinder but not under compression.
Thanks,
Hyflyer

Search is your friend. There's a ton of info on such issues already covered in multiple threads. But I have to ask: if problems started at the shop, why won't they fix it?

Yes the problems started at a shop. They won't fix it because that is the way that shop operates, not our problem they say.

Have you tried your old powerpack to see if the same happens?
Shops like that made me learn how to DIY

With a $10 Digitalmeter you can normally get a fair reading on Stator Output.
Have you also checked the tachometer wire isnt shorting somewhere and the rectifier is all ok?

The timer base is damaged..compair ohm readings from 1&3 to 2&4. Its not pack or stator

I checked and found power wire from ignition switch to tach also has continuity to ground. Will get ground off that wire and try to determine if ignition switch is okay.
Ohms reading 1 to 3 and 2 to 4 are the same
Thanks,
Hyflyer
