I just bought the boat and replaced the impeller. I took it out tonight and I noticed that when I would drive at mid-speed water and steam would come out of the pisser holes. Is this normal. When I would slow down it went away. The motor ran fine the whole time just alittle concerned about the steam.

D98240,

You should get a steady stream to at least a forceful spray out of those holes.

at idle it is just like a small spray out of the holes, but the higher the throttle the spray becomes more intense shooting water out.

Are you sure it's steam? Is the hot horn sounding? Is the motor overheating? (Can you put your hand on the block after a run of more than a few minutes w/o getting burned?) Motor should be running ~ 150 to 160 deg F. If your motor passes the touch test, it's fine.

Are you referring to a tell tale or the two big holes on the back of the leg?

If you have the 2 big holes you might not have a tell tale. It looks similar to a person spitting and talking at the same time. This is normal.

I have the same motor. There is no "pisser" or tale-tale. It will, however, pump water out those two exhaust holes like a fire hydrant when the tstats open, before the stats open it will spit water out of them a bit. A little smoke out those holes is normal for mine, esp if it is chilly outside, but I don't think I get much steam. I can typically lay hands on the heads for a couple seconds when the motor is at operating temp.

That motor is a workhorse. Mine hasn't left me stranded on the water in the 4.5 years I've had it. It just doesn't pass many fuel stops if run too hard.

They are under the shroud that the hood clips to in the back. They are inexpensive, but a bear to change. Be careful if you change them, I've been told its easy to get them upside down them which will fry the motor
