1976 Johnson controls

I'm alittle confused here fellas. 135 johnny has OMC control box on this boat. Still trying to get it on the water. The previous guy said that the engine would stay at full throttle even when control moved to nuetral so he decided to MOVE the throttle cable to a cheesy lever mounted just behind the control box. Was OMC used with this motor or do I need to look for the right controls instead of trying to figure out what he did and how to fix it?

So I got the throttle cable installed in the control box, but like he said, it does not return to idle. I have to go back to motor and manual push the cable to idle. What can be going on inside the controls???

Is it a dual cable control setup? One cable for shift and one for throttle?

correct.... And I am going on vacation Thursday but not without having some throttle for the boat

Alittle help here fellas. Im trying to go on vacation Thursday but aint going without the boat. Any thoughts??? Does anyone know where I can get controls for this ASAP??
