1976 mercruiser 120 tilt trim

i have a 1976 glastronn with a 120 mercruiser i have heard two different storys as to what to use for the tilt trim fluid which is it sae30 or atf

5W-30 or ATF will work.....
I use 5 -30.......
Straight 30 will work in warmer climates.....
Actually almost anything will work, but the two top ones are the preferred.......

should it be added in the up or down position
