I posted this topic yesterday but seems to have been deleted.. i've done a search on this topic but didn't find what i was looking for.. I have a 76 mercury outboard 7.5hp, that idles just fine, but when it's put under a load and you try and give it gas it just spurts and sputters and doesn't ever get to full throttle.. any suggestions would help.. i've checked the plugs and spark..

What's your compression? Have you pulled the carb and cleaned it?

Hi, Ryche.

I don't remember your post, and I'm sure I didn't delete it.

Your post is probably on page 3 by now. You can find it by scrolling to the bottom and clicking page 2, etc.

The stuttering you describe is probably an over-rich condition usually called "four cycling".

It could be from the high speed circuit being adjusted too rich, or it could be from a sticking float or needle in the carb.

Good luck. :)
