hello fellas, i just had this 76 procraft given to me and was wanting to know about this boat. it has a 135 horse evinrude on it and we got it running today. the floors were a little weak so we took the carpet up and it has like a thin layer of fiberglass over plywood. when we redo the floor how should we do tis on this boat or is it worth fixing? are procraft bass boats any good? i was also wanting to know does this 1975 (135 horse motor) have a charging circuit to charge batteries or not? thanks in advance. Re: 1976 procraft

Procraft is a fast hull with so-so construction. Get inside and check those stringers and the transom. Pay specific attention to the keel section. If those areas are rotted then replace them ....... it's worth the time and $$$

Yes your evinrude has a charging circuit of sorts. Good outboards.

Re: 1976 procraft

Son just bought a '95 Procraft and it is solidly built and no wood. Do not know when they went to total composite but I for one am surely glad the industry did.

I really like the way they did the hull with sharp V entry, wide beam and pad to ride on. Seems a lot of thought went into the hull design because it is somewhat radical.....don't know when they adopted this hull.

With a 150 Merc his 180 Fish-Ski, 21P prop turns 55 mph.

Like Bob said, rebuilding is a lot of work, but should be well worth your time.

Re: 1976 procraft

Welcome to iboats. some will say Marine Plywood. i say 1/2 inch 5ply solid core exterior plywood. seal all the way around. get it cleaned out and see what you have. you can use the blue post reply, and post pictures in the manage attachments box, from computer or hosting site.

Yep, marine plywood is only needed when bending is needed. 5 ply ext is good, as TD said.

Re: 1976 procraft

The only things I know about marine plywood are:

Very expensive and hard to find (around here).

Usually multi-ply for the thickness when compared to other woods giving you high strength to weight ratio with plies made from premium wood.

Marine grade (waterproof) glue used in the construction.
--------------------
Been a long time but when I redid my floor in a '65 Starcraft 18' Holiday I/O, I used 3/8" marine and it was 5 ply. With that the floor was nice and solid, yet light.

I covered it (impregnated it) with linseed oil (with turpentine as a vehicle) before I installed it then installed, then marine carpeted over that.....lasted 15 years that I know of.....don't know where the boat is now. I could have used varnish or FG resin, but I wanted something that would penetrate the wood and not crack allowing water in.
