Hello - I'm currently looking at a 1976 Robalo 23' CC with a roughly 1996 Johnson 175 w/ 107hrs on it. It has been sitting from the last two years unused and completely winterized. I'm having a hard time matching up the asking price with what the boat is actually worth. Any thoughts? Can you give me some insight on what to look for with such a old boat? I'm pretty much mechanically challenged, just enjoy the water and fishing. Any insight would be much appreciated. There is no trailer w/ the boat.

Thanks

Re: 1976 Robalo 23' CC

Welcome lps - That is a fine rig and a great combo if in reasonably good condition. Robalos are respected in south Florida and make fine fishing machines. The 175 should be adequate for most anything but it will not be a speed demon. Many 23'ers wil have 200 hp+ sitting on the back.

I am partial to the 23' size and the CC layout. I have a 1988 23' Wellcraft with a pair of 110 hp SeaDrives on the back..

You will need a tandem axle trailer with surge brakes & I strongly recommend disk brakes especially if you run in salt water. Plan on a grand if you can find a used one or $21-2400 for a new one. Make sure you have an adequate tow vehicle

Spend some time at this site and read till you drop. Most important if you are a newbie is to check the boat for rot (transom/floor/stringers) and have a marine mechanic check the motor.

Don't let the age of the boat or motor be a deterrent. If well cared for that combo can be every good as a rig fresh out of the box.

Get a copy of Boat Trader or go to trader on line for comparative pricing.

Good luck & let us know how you make out.
