I need to replace my floor in a 1976 SS160. I have never replaced a floor this big. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Do I need 1/2 or 3/4 treated or marine wood? I will only use this boat about 6 times a season so I would like to try and keep my costs down. What type of carper do you recommend? Thanks for the info.

Re: 1976 Starcraft SS160 floor replacement

my thoughts, having just done this on a 14 footer.

Keep your old floor as intact as possible, as it will serve you well as a template.

take your time to treat the floor, with epoxy, or multiple coats of paint.

I chose not to go back with carpet, but with paint only, to avoid carpet keeping the wood wet. Knowing this would be slick when wet, I used a pepper shaker with sand when putting on the last coat of paint. This gave me grip, but doesn't seem to be too abrasive on bare feet. (might be a little tough on knees if falling or skidding over the deck).

Use BC non-treated plywood. I would tend to go thicker rather than thinner, and make sure that your paint or epoxy penetrates the wood. Epoxy is better than just paint, but you will need to paint over the epoxy (UV factor).

It is not a hard process! I knew nothing about it, and my project came out looking fine. You'll do well.

Do you think I need to expoxy the ends of the wood? It will have carpet wrapped around it and the boat is stored inside year round.
Thanks
