1977 115hp Johnson NO spark...

Hi, just bought a 77 115Hp Johnson and I've got no spark. So far I have "jumped" the motor while disconnecting the wire harness, and put in a brand new power pack. I know for a fact that there is no output from the power pack to the coils. The motor is spinning fast enough and the voltage of the battery is 12V under a load. Where do I go from here? No spark on any cylinders.

You will want to qualify both the stator and the timer base. See this website for some excellent ignition troubleshooting details: cdielectronics.com. You'll need a special "peak reading" voltmeter to validate cranking voltage outputs.

Disconnected the black/yellow wire at the power pack, and disconnected the yellow wires from the rectifier.

Did some tests and stator puts out a voltage of 122 VAC and has a resistance of 630 ohms. It shows I should be getting 400-600 ohm resistance and 150-400V when cranking I believe.

The timer base puts out 0.06 VAC/.002VDC for both sets of black/white and white/black wires going from power pack to the timer base. The ohm resistance is 7.3 and 7.5 ohms. The ohm resistance should be between 10-20 ohms and 0.6V when cranking

ohm resistance from all four sensor base wires to the ground is 1.84 milli-ohms

http://www.**************/productcent...de-1971-78.pdf here is the range of what they should be at.

They don't seem to be in range. What should my next step be?

The condemning stator voltage ouput is anything less than 150 volts. You indicate yours is putting out 122 volts....

Ok...so a new stator. What about my triggers/timer base. What do I make of those? They also seem low, but could it be caused by the stator?

Per the trouble shooting guide, the timer base needs ouput 0.6 volts to be considered ok. Anthing less and it's condemned.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Im just not getting any juice to any of the coil wires coming out of the power pack and I just bought a brand new one. I would like to be sure as to what it is before i spend a couple hundred dollars on something.

Youl need a dva or to get them tested at a shop by someone who has one, no other way round it

Always remember you could have a new defective pack. Where did you get it ??

Ok so now I managed to get it to spark but only on one side. This was done by cleaning off the rust on the timer base coils. The left side now sparks. The right side sparked but only for a little while and then I lost it. I am thinking the timer base needs replaced?

When you tested the cranking voltage outputs, what kind of voltage did your peak-reading voltmeter show?

Not using a DVA adaptor I got 160V from the stator. I however did not check the readings on the timer base. On those I just saw that I had spark on the left side and managed to get one on the right side to spark once
