I have been looking for the answer but cant find it. My motor must be an odd one or something. Everyone says to take the screw out of the shift linkage. My problem is there is no screw in the linkage under the carb there seems to be a pin of some sort. This is not the first lower unit to drop. I don't know how to get this out. Please someone help me. I know it is the right area and part but how do I get the pin out? HELP!!

When you loosen and remove the nut from the pin, the two arms will seperate
and it will release the shift rod

Crestliner is correct. Your older engine has the belcrank system, which predated the clevis and screw engines. You can look at the factory exploded parts diagram on the Bombardier website: epc.brp.com to see how it goes together. Look for the cylinder/crankcase diagram.

Thanks guys, What I actually had to do was just about take the entire shift linkage apart. The bolt that the arm pivioted on was what held it all together. Looks like it will be just as fun to get it back together. Now that I have it apart are there any other items that I should replace besides the impellar?

Before you reinstall the lower unit, make sure the rectangular exhaust seal is intact (not deformed) between the gearcase and the midsection. Sometimes on these older units they tend to swell, get misshapen with age. If they get out of place during reassembly, exhaust can leak onto the plastic impeller housing, shortening it's life and effectiveness the impeller.
