Looking to replace the water impeller on a 1977 25hp Chrysler model 252HB. Do you merely remove the 4 bolts to drop the LU to have access to the water pump, or is there a connector bolt to the shift rod.

thanks

My 1970 35hp Chrysler has a cotter to connect the shift rod. There is also a coupling that centers my shift rod to allow F-N-R positions. My coupling is centered good and I have learned to just pull and replace the cotter vs centering again.

I hope you know to not pull the shift pin vs the plug marked drain to drain your L/U oil. That can be a painful mistake.

Well I have 4 or 5 of these 25Hp Chryslers but no 1977. Mine are from 1973-1975.
To pull off the LU you have to disconnect the gearshiftshaft. Remove the motorleg covers (5 screws) and then you see the shaftcoupler.
It has one long nut (adjust nut) and one stop nut. Loose the stop nut just a little so you can unscrew the long nut.
This will give you the right position for the adjustment when you put the LU back after impeller change.
When you unscrew the adjust nut, the 4 bolts holding the LU to the middleg must have been removed so that the hole LU can move down when the you unscrew the adjust nut.
If not the shiftshaft will stop when it reach the endstroke in the LU. The adjust nut needs more movment than that to got loose from the shiftshaft upper..
