I am trying to remove one of the most subborn lower units, I've ever been at. Has anyone ever tried to drill 2 holes in skeg, bolt a flat iron to it and try a slide hammer ?? Will skeg break off ? Ive tried all I can think of, but this lower decided to stay where it is.

Have you get the bolts off? If they are off keep a woodpiece in a hand on top of the cavitation plate and hit the wood (be careful, dont hit it very hard) with hammer. That way I could get my merc 9.8 -72 stuck lower unit out.

I had trouble last weekend removing my lower unit on my classic 50.<br />Gentle hitting around the seam with a rubber mallet, then I placed a solid metal spacer between the rear retaining bolt heads and the upper body and unscrewed the bolt heads. As the bolt heads had no clearance to completely unscrew ( as the where hitting the solid spacer), they then applied downward force on the lower unit and slowly cranked her down till she was loose enough to remove.
