I have a 55 hp evinrude and I was running it. it was working fine and then I go to start it and nothing I test lighted it I have power going in to the solenoid and nothing going to the starter. I replaced it and still nothing I jumped the starter to make sure it engaged no problem. But it does nothing the ignition switch works according to light. I am at a loss I hooked everything up the same way. Any ideas please

what power exactly do you see on the selenoid ??? ... main 12v or are you getting 12v on the control post when the key is at start ??? if 12v reaches the control post at start check the ground wire on the selenoid has suggested

is your test lamp a LED test device or old style bulb type because one other possibility is a corroded junction on the control wire or bad key allowing you you see a 12v yet so poor that not enought juice (amps) reaches the selenoid to cause it to pull up . check that side plug for pin corrosion on the yellow-red. btw check the fuse and fuse contact surfaces

what happens if you directly apply a solid 12v on the control post

Thanks I found that in fact the start portion of my ignition switch is wore out makes sense seeing how it appears original.. now I have a slight idle won’t low idle every thing I have saw or read says that I should clean my carbs and then set the idle cause most likely it’s a blockage in the low idle port

great find.. thanks for feedback...

yes carbs need a clean up sometimes but let it run a while sometimes things clear up after passing fresh fuel in the carb. ..try some engine cleaner products like EV engine cleaner and see if things improve ... if not do the carb

simple old style carb... blow out all passages/ jets incl. side channel and blow dry . if things don't work out you may need to clean the uppe LS chamber under the dime size plug.

it won't idle or it idles too high? very different issues. if it wont idle then yes carbs need cleaned (should do it anyway). a high idle can indicate an air leak or the cam roller is against the throttle cam causing the throttle plates to be open a hair.
