I'm trying to figure out if I have all the parts that go to the power trim/tilt motor. The motor has a top cap, armature, and case, but no bottom, which is where it mounts on hydraulic pump. Should there be a bottom plate. I bought this last week as a pile of parts. Any help here would be appreciated.

HBF4.... The electric motor for a P/T/T has a top and bottom plate, and is a sealed unit.

However, the electric motor for the older units, which were strictly a "Power Tilt" assembly (not a P/T/T), did not have a bottom plate.

The bottom portion of the armature on the power tilt motor is longer than the P/T/T armature.

thanks. I've been trying to rewire the motor I have, without a lot of luck. I used 12 awg wire, but it was too stiff. I noticed that when I spin the armature, it rubs the iron cores in a couple of places. I took the field coils out and removed the old tape, and retaped them. Will this cause any problems? I'm glad I have a few months to get this together. The cap is cracked, but I'm going to epoxy it and see if it will work. If not, time to pull out the wallet, and breathe deep.
