So I recently acquired a 1976 Johnson 135 that apparently sat up partially submerged and it seized, but was free dollars. I currently have a 1977 85hp on my bass tracker. Would it be worth pursuing swapping the carbs, exhaust, and heads? Thanks for any input guys

Agreed with above.---The motors " look " to be identical.------The 85 HP as smaller bores and less displacement.

And that's 4 votes for 'No'... the crossflow 135 was a dog! I've seen 90hp Mercs outperform it!

I know my 115 Merc had better Acceleration and Top Speed than my 140 Evinrude, on the same Hull, and used less gas doing so.
