well.... I bought this boat last month and have rebuilt it so now all I have left to do is the engine. Started is a couple of days ago and found there was no water flow. I replaced the impeller and housing today ( the old one was melted). Ran it today and there is no water flow out. I flushed the lines from the thermostat and have good water flow from there out the water inlet. with the engine started the prop turn when it is out on neutral, so the shaft is good......

how long should it take for water to flow out the exhaust? I run it 30 seconds ans no flow, eng temp was still good.

does anyone have any ideas on that might be wrong?

You need to have the water level above the water pump whenever you run the motor.

Before ignition, if you are running on muffs, let the water run until there is a good flow from above the gearcase, or if running in a barrel, make sure the water is above the pump.

Most problems are from not having both of the water tubes firrmly seated in the water pump. If the tubes catch the rubber seals in the pump and push them down, the pump will not work.

Once the midsection fills, water should start spitting out of the exhaust relief.

You should be able to keep your fingers on either cylinder head for a full count of three anytime the engine is running.

If you decide to add a true tell-tale to more readily check the function of the pump, see Iwombat's thread on adding a tell-tale to the engine in the Engine FAQ forum: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=222677

there is no weep hole in this model, so i can't check the flow. I am using muffs and put the water on full, but i did not get any flow out the exhaust, so i pulled one of the flex lines off the cylinder head, no flow out of there either.

The exhaust relief is from the two holes in the back of the midsection, several inches below the lower cowl.

The water flow is through the engine to the hoses at the bottom of the cylinder heads then to the thermostats and out. If you don't have water flow through the hoses on the cylinder head when they are loose, it is likely that your water pump is not working.

Even if the water pump was toast, if its turning at all and with the muffs on full pressure you should be getting _something_ out the back end of the cylinders. I think you have a clog someplace.

well you were right, the water tubes were not set right.... this time I omitted the guided tubes and used my finger to start the tubes... I left an exit water line loose on one of the heads when I started the engine to verify water flow (had flow in about 20 seconds)... after 1 minute the engine was warm and water was flowing from the exhaust ports....

Thanks for the help....

this design sucks, sure makes an easy job hard....

Looks like I can launch the boat tomorrow.

Thanks for the reference to the post on installing the water pressure connection.... just a thought, could you not tie in the water pressure reference off one of the flex lines on the cylinder head.... sure would be easier then drilling and tapping into the head...?
