1977 Chrysler 135 (1359HG) carb questions

I have just recently purchased this motor and was looking for a carb rebuild kit. From what i have found out, this model# motor was made for saltwater application. I can find rebuild kits for all the other model# motors in this year except for the one i have. Does anyone know if they are mostly all universal, or of any parts houses that may still sell new Tillotson carbs themselves. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ryan:facepalm:

Carb parts are all pretty much the same.Just take it apart. You probably don't need a rebuild just a good clean.
Don't soak it in anything!!! Some soaks ruin the rubber and swell some o-rings.Just a regular carb cleaner.
The top air screw,Turn it in till it bottoms out and then remember the turns. That way you can reset it with out any trouble.
How did you find out that motor was for salt water?

Any seal or seat in the carbs is completely ate away from old fuel or a possible soak. I just can't find anything for this particular model#, i have a 105 Chrysler and everything in the carb setup seems the same. The motor came from Tx, and when i googled the model# it brought me to this forum where it had basic specs.

Re: 1977 Chrysler 135 (1359HG) carb questions

Chrysler only used two basic model carbs: Small bore WB carbs and large bore TC carbs. WB carbs on the larger engines have a 1 5/16 diameter venturi and TC carbs have a 1 5/8 diameter venturi.

I was under the impression that the 105 used the WB and anything over 120 used the TC carbs. (some 120s used WB and some used TC carbs.) However, no matter which carb model you have, it will be stamped in the carb mounting flange, like TC 5 D or WB 21. At any rate, while the WB used for the most part a screw in seat and the TC only used a press in seat, everything else except the high speed jet was the same: Same float, pin, needle, bowl, (with the exception of a larger hole on the bowl bottom on the TC for a 9/16 head bolt), and bowl gasket.

SO: No matter which carb model you have, if you get a rebuild kit for either any TC or any WB, you should get the correct parts.

You've about summed it up for me Frank, thanks for the advice. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

Re: 1977 Chrysler 135 (1359HG) carb questions

I think my last reply was a bit ambiguous: Ie. any rebuild kit for a TC will most likely fit any other TC and any kit for a WB will probably fit any other WB PROVIDED that the seats are the same--that is, screw in or press in type.
