I have a 1977 85 hp evinrude outboard engine.Model # 85799S Ser# Jooo4824. The problem I am having is, engine stops running after 15 min.or so. After it sits and cools of for about 20-30 min it will restart and run good.I have no fire to all four plugs. I have replaced all four coils which didn't take care of the problem. I did the resistance test on the sensor coil and charge coil as per manual. As per manual, sensor coil is 6.5-10.5 ohms at room temp.(70F). My reading is 11.5 ohms at about 92 F( IS THIS OK?)
My charge coil reading is 638 ohms which is in spec's as per manual. Can a bad power pack cause this problem?
any info be great

Guess I will try a power pack. I will find the bad part sooner or later. Replacing all ignition part is still cheaper than a repair shop. ;)

Hard to have 4 bad coils.---Take black / yellow stripe wire off the pack and check for spark.------Charge the battery and have battery load tested.----Take starter apart for inspection and ohm check on armature.-----No $$$ spent to do that.----You test charge coils and sensor coils .----They are under the flywheel.---No need to remove flywheel to test them----No easy test can be done on powerpack.
