Hey! I have a 1977 Evinrude that is a 75 Hp. My Problem is that when I put the engine in neutral, the engine wants to speed up. So when I want to put it into forward or reverse gear, it wants to slam into gear. Sounds Nasty and has got to be hard on the gears. Is this a simple Idle adjustment?? Need some help please. Thanks

I am assuming so! I took the boat motor to the mechanic this winter to have it winterized and he said that he adjusted the throttle cables to. So I am assuming they are adjusted correctly!

We all know what assumption is. Check it yourself to be sure.

Haha!! Well I would check it myself Problem is I know nothing about Boat motors so I am not sure how to tell if they are adjusted correctly. I was wondering if their is a simple screw that needs to be turned that will adjust how fast the engine runs?? Sorry I just don't know a lot about motors!!

Maybe you should get a factory service manual. It would pay in the long run.
