Hello...i need some help...i have been around boats all my life..but they always worked or my dad was great at getting them to..i have my own now and for 2 years we have fought to get it to start and run...it spent 9 months at a repair shop aftre we got it...new everything...hubby is very mechanically incined but this is uncharted water...ran great at the end of last year...tried to start it today and started up in 3 minutes...he cleaned the carburator afterwards and now we have less and less response from it... now we have no turnover from pulling...pulled the spark plugs that were new Champions last year he cleaned them...and it tried...but each time less and less from the motor...any ideas?? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Backfiring badly and then shuts off...now just spitting and thats it. Thanks

Re: 1977 evinrude trouble

It almost always spells clogged carbs when they won't run after storage.
Get the factory service manual see links below, order rebuild kits for carbs/s

btw, post the yr ,hp and model number or its hard to help you.

Watch a carb rebuild video, its very simple,
just a few seals and a needle or 2.
Drain old gas , maybe new fuel lines for this yr.

Re: 1977 evinrude trouble

Thank you for the help...it is an Evinrude 1969..18HP...will get the #'s...it fired up yesterday and then after the carb was cleaned we had less and less power...just got new spark plugs today...found that the repair man had different spark plug size in....new coil..the old plugs were wet each time they were cleaned yesterday...kept getting fouled up. Thanks
