1977 johnson 115. Idles up to 6k but won’t push boat up on plane

1977 johnson 115. Idles up to 6k rpm but won’t push the boat up on plane... fuel system is fine. Acts like the powerband isn’t kicking in.. please advise.

If the motor spins 6000RPM and the boat doesn't move fast, the prop is likely spun and slipping.

It is pushing the boat, just not getting it up on pad.. it will probably move the boat at 5 mph or so, but it doesn’t sound like it is slipping or free wheeling

What RPM when moving 5 MPH?

If you are winding it up to 6000 RPM on a trailer at home you are wasting your time.----It will damage the motor .----It will run to 6000 RPM on 2 of 4 cylinders.

Around 6000 rpm. It has a retofit jet drive i’ve used for 16 years..

Around 6000 rpm. It has a retofit jet drive i’ve used for 16 years..

And we assume a slipping prop hub like 99.9% of questions like this.

Check the impeller and wear ring
