Hello all, I am new to this forum and I just have a question about a couple of outboard motors I picked up recently. I bought two 1977 Johnsons from a friend of mine down the street who really didn't use them often. Now they both start and run pretty well however each motor has their slight problems.

1977 Johnson 35HP (35E77H)

- This motor seems to jump out of gear at high RPMs, I have read that this is the dog clutch that is worn out and I was wondering if the Johnson 25HP (25E77S) I have would have a compatible part or if the motors would be compatible at all. I know the PowerPack works for both motors, however I am unsure about the rest of the motor.

- Another thing I have been wondering is if I can get a rewind starter for the 35HP. I have been looking everywhere online but I can only find older models (50's or 60's) however I was wondering if there is a specific part # that would match for my motors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if i didn't post correctly or something, please don't hesitate to let me know!

Thanks

No nothing will interchange between the 2 lower units. You can use the recoil off of a 20,25,28,30,35 hp from 1977 and up you will also need a different hood. The powerheads are both 32 CID blocks with carb and the intake being different and usually a change in timing for the 35 hp.
