I am currently trying to figure out why my engine is idling to high. It’s idling at about 3,000 rpms. I have adjusted everything that the manual says to adjust. I’m just hoping someone out there can point me in the right direction.

You have to be very careful when you start adjusting things.-------So are all linkages hooked up and the timer base is rotating when you try and slow down ??-------Remove throttle cable at the motor.-----Move the throttle arm by hand at the motor to slow it down.-----Then adjust black thingy on cable to suit , so it pulls against the idle stop.

A vacuum leak can often be the source of a high idle. Might be time to have a good look at the vacuum and primer lines. Or better yet, just replace them.

There are not many vacuum / primer lines on a 1977 model 115 HP !!

Not that familiar with the specifics, haven't spent much time on 2 strokes in a while now, so I was speaking in general. That said, is there a pulse line to the fuel pump that might be cracked? Have the carbs been off and the gaskets used over again one too many times?

I had the carbs replaced last year with I’m assuming new gaskets as well. I check the lines coming into the fuel pump and they don’t look to be cracked or damaged.

You had the carbs replaced where did you find carbs for a 77 motor?

I have not pulled the top of the engine off yet. I am just trying to get a few ideas and then attempt all of them. There is a place where I live that I have been taking this boat to get fixed. He told me he replaced the carbs but honestly he could have just rebuilt them. I am not an expert on outboard engines. I am just trying to save some money with doing the repairs myself. As soon as I get it running I will be selling it. Every year there is something else broke on it. The old saying is coming true about a boat.

No need to pull the flywheel to see if timer base rotates.----Is throttle arm being pulled back against idle stop screw ?
