i just picked up this old glasspar , 1962, and it has the aformentioned motor hanging onn the back.has tilt and trim, extremely clean motor. looks almost new! runs 100%. chrome on motor is still shiny, was sitting in a garage since 1986, hasnt seen the sun til last week.<br /><br />my questions...<br />1. are these motors reliable. ive always owned evinrudes. <br />2. are parts available still?<br />3. are these motors collectables. ive heard of people collecting old mercs....<br /><br />any advice for a newbie to mercs?

...Mike, I currently own a 1977 Merc 150HP inline six. It is the same as your motor save carb jets and porting. It has been my experience that the Merc dealers may not want to assist you with service since the motor is so old. However, parts are available both from the Merc dealer and from aftermarket. These (especially the 115HP) motors were made for a long time, and were very popular. My 150 has tremendous mid-RPM-range pulling power. It also has a good top end. The low-end power was not as good.<br /><br />Keep tabs on the waterpump condition, and make sure the carbs are clean and the motor should last.
