1977 4 cylinder Merc 50 runs great, but it spits a drop of raw gas out the exhaust about every 5 seconds. Your thoughts?

Have you looked at the spark plugs and checked for spark. Are you sure it's raw gas and not some two stroke oil?

I've checked and it's gas. I replaced the well worn Champ plugs with NGK and also fixed a frayed wire from the triggers to the switch box.

This model has a fuel pump on the side of each carb. I just can't figure how gas can get through the combustion chamber without igniting. It doesn't do it for about 10 seconds after first startup, then later it'll do it even after it stops when I run it out gas. Engine runs smooth as silk, idles well. ????
