I have a Mercury Model 700, 70hp outboard that I got in 1977. I have been having some problems with it not running on one cylindar so I cracked open the case and found the problem. It is a square black part mounted on the side of the engine with 4 wires running to it. One is a red wire presumably from the battery. The part has three terminals on it that the wires connect. On one of these terminals, the nut had come loose and the wire has obviously been arcing due to lack of contact because part of the piece has been melted. I don't know what this part is, I presume some kind of resistor?? I want to buy a new part, but don't know what to ask for. If no one knows I will take it into a dealer, but I don't have time for a while. The part had the term "VARO R353 7627" on it. Any ideas on what this is and what it does?
