Above the ignition key is a red light that illuminates when you turn on the key. It stays lit when the engine is running. Is this correct operation?

Umm, what have you got here, and outboard, i/o, ?

Have you looked to see what the light is hooked up to, if anything, besides the ignition switch?

Is it hooked into a lighting circuit?

I will get the meter out and see where it goes. The schematic shows a warning light sender next to the oil pressure sender. Maybe it goes there. I dont have an oil pressure gauge but the oil pressure sender is hooked up. I wonder where that goes.

Looks like the light goes to the oil pressure switch next to the oil pressure sending unit. The pressure switch is not the origional. I found a new one on ebay and have ordered it. Finding NLA parts is alot of fun  I will have to test oil pressure next time I have it running on the hose.

This light on the dash is truly the oil pressure warning light. I had the boat on the water for the first time this morning and the light now goes off after the engine starts and oil pressure builds. The correct sending unit did the trick.
