Hey all, My motor has ran fine all summer so far, But today I was running down the lake and it just shut down and would start but not stay idleing. further inspection I saw the linkage on the timing had come loose.( right under the fly wheel ). put that back and now won't open up and idles just fine, and all cylinders are fireing. thanks for any Help!!!

The link arm you describe may be the one which pulls the spark advance as the throttle opens. You may want to double check the sync and link-the relationship between the carb butterfly opening and the spark advance. Make sure your carb butterflys open and that the timer base advances at the same time. Check it by advancing the throttle handle when the ignition is off and check for proper operation of the linkages on the starboard side of the engine.

Also, you may want to check the wiring from the port side. Sometimes it hangs up and keeps the advance from moving properly.

You may want to read the SB for the 1979 wiring as well.
