I have not figured out how to search since the "Search Forum" disappeared in the board upgrade. If you can let me konw the best way it would be much appreciated.
I have a 1978 Johnson 2hp outboard. It's super clean and a fun little motor. I run my fly fishing pontoon boat on it and it clips along nice. I am leaving to go fly fishing on Thursday of next week and I pulled the motor out last night, drained any gas from the tank, took the motor apart, soaked the carb over night, cleaned everything I could with carb cleaner and blew it out with compressed air. It was pretty clean already I got it back together and it started 2nd pull. It won't stay running however it runs, I try to rev it up and when I do it revs up a bit and sputters and stalls. I can't keep it running now. Last year it ran really well.
I have the high speed jet at 1/2 a turn from firmly seated and the slow speed at 1 1/4 turns. I played with both but it didn't make much difference. I installed a fuel filter last year and it looks like the fuel filter is not filling up as much as last year. I pulled the tank off, drained all the fuel (shouldn't have left it in there), removed the tank valve feeding fuel and cleaned everything with carb cleaner and blew it out with compressed air. It looked pretty clean. I tried pulling the choke cause I figured if it was starving it would have wanted more fuel but that would stall it every time so it likely is getting enough fuel. On these little motors, If I'm getting a good strong spark, is that enough or is there anything else I'm missing ?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am running out of time and don't want to row the whole trip !
