1978 850 Mercury 4369341 -Cee bee avenger

My merc has a problem WOT. It fires right up and idels well. When I bought the boat ran pretty good. Sometimes the boat would start to die down so I would hold the electric choke down and the boat would run faster once more. But now my electronic choke does not work. Did I fry something? The boat starts fine but past half speed it cuts out 2400rpms. <br /><br />I took the boat in to a mechanic and he first said it was the stator. So I replaced that and rebuilt carbs and fuel pump. I also checked all fuel lines. This is the story he gave me.OK the engine has a seal leak on the lower crank. Exhaust is coming out and sucking air causing the fuel mixture to be different. Thus causing the engine to stall at full throttle. boat has the same problem still now he says engine needs to be rebuilt $2000. He is crazy?

The lower seal on the crank could be warn right and cause this problem. bogg when WOT

perhaps... but always start with the basics or<br />you end up throwing parts, like stators at the<br />problem... a process of elimination, cheapest<br />first is good start.<br />use the search function here and there's tons of<br />similar problems and good solutions.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.
