I just bought a boat with a 1978 200hp Merc V-6. It looks like the transom bracket is only being held onto the boat with two bolts
Their are 4 bolt holes in the bracket. 2 on each side about 5" and 7" down from where the bracket hooks rest on the top of the transom. It does not look like their are any bolts at all on the lower half of the bracket.
This unit has the single center power trim cylinder.
The mechanic has never seen a bracket like this..he showed me some other Merc V-6's he has in the shop and all of them have 5 bolts on each side up high and it looked like 4 maybe 5 bolts down lower on the bracket.
Does anyone have any information on what guess is an earlier style bracket setup?
The mechanic is wanting to weld tabs on the bracket to allow lower mounting bolts. Seems kinda cobbley to me to do that.
Is this unit only supported by the 4 higher mounting bolts?
Thanks
Greg
