Hello everyone... my name is John and i am a flooring contractor by trade. Mostly custom showers and tile. I've recently had a desire to get back into bass fishing after a boating accident took me out of the game years ago... never really felt good on the water after it happened.

I am picking up this project boat this week... hoping to find lots of help and ideas here. The plan is to first get the outboard running and then get ready to take the cap off the boat and get busy bringing it to like new condition.

I've spent the last few months researching and feel comfortable with the work that needs to be done. Today was the first day I actually had a chance to see the boat and seconds later I had my first question.

I know some have done restorations of these boats but from what I recall the Champion was difficult to remove the cap without cutting the floor because they had used peanut butter or another adhesive to mount the floors to the stringers.

Looking at this boat has me confused... the cap is screwed to the floor... so I'm thinking maybe the floor had been replaced in the past... or maybe I've was confused by my understanding and this is the way they came from the factory. Would anyone here have any ideas?

well I guess I need to learn to resize before I can post pictures... I'll try and do that soon.....this boat isn't pretty but hopefully in the end I'll have something to proudly fish out of.

Can't offer much help without seeing what you are talking about, but you need to post a few more message before the system will allow you to post pictures, look forward to see what you are up against.

Hmmm... maybe I need a class in how to post to the forum... it's a bit different than what I'm used to.

the above picture shows the cap portion sitting on the carpeted floor... it is screwed down and the raw edge of the fiberglass was covered with the rubber molding pictured. I had originally thought that this should all be one piece.?

I'm not sure how the cap attaches but...irregardless I'd just start cleaning her out on the inside, removing everything you can and taking LOTS of measurements before the cap comes off
