how much water should come out of the tell tales at an idle in a barrel on this motor. Just put in a new water pump kit from suggestions on this forum. when i run the motor the water pours out. Is this normal? This motor hadn't been run in 20+ years and it started right up with very little work. Thanks for your suggestions

The tell-tale stream from the small hose out the bottom of the lower cover is a steady stream, but only 1/8" so not really a lot of water.

The water exiting the two holes of the exhaust relief on the midsection should be spitting, then increasing with the RPM of the engine.

i guess i got the teminology wrong, i guess i mean the exhaust relief ports, it sounds like there shouldn't be a lot of water coming out of them. what could i have done wrong when i put the water pump in? Thanks

You probably have nothing wrong. The mid fills with water to cool and muffle the inner exhaust. The water that reaches the exhaust relief will spit out with the exhaust.

Did you make sure that the large seal between the exhaust and the gearcase was in place?
