Okay guys I could use some help please.

I inadvertently backed out the manual release valve screw from the starbord transom bracket. I have it in my hand after grabbing it with my needlenose pliers.

If I try to screw it back in , it turns to the left, and turns and turns and turns, never tightening. I know its never been taken out by me before in the 7 years I have owned the boat. Before that, who knows.

Why cant I tighten this screw? It doesnt look like there are that many threads.

Help!!

Thanks guys.

No joy.

Refuses to tighten, threads kinda grip but not enough, its like something is blocking it from getting to the threads. Is there a snap ring or anything that would be blocking it?

There is a retaining ring and an O-ring.

Okay dense me.

its inside a recessed hole in the transom bracket. How would I even get to a snap ring and/or o-ring to put it back in?

Other words, knowing what I have in my hand (the screw, its out) how do I get the snap ring and o-ring out?

Not terribly mechanically inclined here, but short on funds to have somebody repair this thing, so if I can do it myself, I am so much the better.

Thanks

Re: 1978 Evinrude 115hp T&T Manual Release Valve Screw Problem

I am sorry guys. I really do know my left from my right but I cant read apparently.

I have been turning to the right or clockwise to tighten, not to the left, so forgive me.

"Lefty loosey, rightey tighty."

Any help short of calling me an idiot would be appreciated.

Thanks

Clockwise tightens.

The o-ring may not be a problem, but you will have to come up with a tool that is more like a divider than a regular snap ring tool. If you grind the tips of a small needle nose plier you could get it out.

Re: 1978 Evinrude 115hp T&T Manual Release Valve Screw Problem

Okay thanks to ezeke's suggestion, I tried using some jeweler's screwdrivers to get in and dig out the clip, and, viola, was successful.

Clip is out, manual relief valve screw is back in and tight, with no leaks that I can tell..

However....

I filled it up with T&T fluid till it ran out the top hole. It wont move up or down. I was able to let it down unintentionally that is as I had the switch in the up position. I think there is not enough pressure.

Additionally, the trim pistons do not move at all. Valve in or out.

I am wondering if this thing is toast.

Any thoughts?
