I have a bass boat with a 1978 Evinrude 175 with power tilt and trim.
The TnT has worked intermitently when trailered since I aquired the boat a year ago when, and no problems while in the water. It has now stopped working completely. The batteries are completely charged, and I've replaced the solenoid. I've cleaned all the contacts and replaced any questionable connectors. The solenoid clicks when the switch is in the up position, but nothing in the down position. If I understand what I've read in the older posts in this forum that the solenoid is not used for the down position any way. The Tilt and trim worked one minute and then simply stopped, the hyraulic motor does not function in either up or down position. I'm not sure if I understand how this thing is wired and why the tilt/trim down doesn't use the solenoid, unless it doesn't draw as many amps, and therefore doesn't need the use of a solenoid. I don't consider myself a mental midget, but this is baffling me. I do have the solec manual and have read it inside out and backwards and I'm no closer to solving this problem. Any help would be appreciated

If you have power to tilt motor , your trouble is a poor ground, or tilt motor is shot. Do you have a test light ? Any time you have 12 volt problem and have 12 v to motor or to a solenoid it is best to make sure you have a good ground first before anything else.

The proper factory manual devotes 45+ pages just to the tilt/trim system and the whole book is exclusively written for that engine, no others.

I think your tilt motor is done, try ebay.

I have confirmed that the motor is the culprit. The manual does not explain in sufficient detail how to remove the tilt and trim unit. I've removed the bolts from both sides and the clips and tilt cylinder pin. The unit is loose but won't come out. I could use some advice please.
Thank you,
