I just got a 1978 Evinrude 25 hp and discovered that there was water mixing with my gear lube in the lower unit. So, I decided I would attempt to change the seals in the lower unit (I have never done this before...ever) and came to a dead halt trying to remove the shift shaft bushing. The guy at the marina shop wont sell me the special tool or remove only the bushing. So, does anybody have any idea on how I can get that thing out? Also, if you have any tips or suggestions on putting the lower unit back together I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
