I recently purchased a 1978 evinrude 25 hp and discovered water in the lower unit. So, I decided to attempt to replace the seals in the lower unit (this is my first time....ever). I went to my local marine shop and the guy gave me all of the seals I need. He recommended replacing the o ring and gasket (not sure of exact names) under the shift-shaft bushing. I am having trouble getting it out and probably need to replace the bushing now, too (I created a couple scratches in the bushing trying to get it out). Any ideas on how to get the bushing out? The guy at the marine store wouldnt sell me the special tool, which is understandable. Anything I can use or make at home to get the bushing out? Also, any other tips on putting the lower unit back together? Thanks!
