1978 Evinrude 35HP comes out of gear

1978 Evinrude 35HP comes out of gear and then back again under a full throttle load. If you back off the throttle though, it seems to be fine. I have adjusted everything I can, to no avail. I have heard from a couple of people that, I will probably need a new or rebuilt lower unit.

Yea, they are called shift dogs and are within the lower unit.

So what do I do about this. I think I am pretty handy. Is this something that is serviceable to a do-it yourselfer.
