1978 Johnson 115 tilt trim mechanism compatability

I just inherited a family boat that's been in (indoor) storage for 10 years.

It has a 1978 Johnson 115 that runs great.... BUT the tilt/trim unit is bad.

What year units can I sub for it?
I have read 1978-1981... but if the only difference after 1981 is the wiring, it would give me a better chance of finding a good one!
I am not afraid of converting the control system....

thoughts??

(even after filling and bleeding the unit, it will go up, but gets stuck going down...
I have to turn the manual release to lower... trim rams never lower)

That would have left the factory with a " 3 wire motor " for the trim.-----Yes after 81 they went to a 2 wire motor with relays.-----Your location ?

I am in Burleson (near Ft Worth) Texas

So the only difference is 2 wire vs 3 wire?
So a 1982+ one would work if I convert the control system to 2 wire?
