1978 Johnson 85 HP Coil Pack Question

My coil pack on the back of the engine had its wire sheered off right at the top. Can not pull back and solder.
I ran that wire back and it looks continuous all the way. This may be dumb, but since I can purchase a coil, can I simply solder it it the tine somewhere and heat shrink over it?

When replacing one coil, you just follow the orange wire to a two-pin rubber plug between the coil and the power pack. Poke out the one wire and push in the one from the replacement coil.
