GUYS--I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING SOME AWSOME ADVICE

I BROUGHT A BOAT A FEW MONTHS AGO. ITS MY FIRST ONE. i LIVE IN OCALA FLORIDA AND WANTED TO START FISHING RECREATIONALLY. I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD AFFORD ONE, BUT WHEN I STARTED LOOKING I WAS REALLY SURPRISED HOE REASONABLE THEY WERE. USED OFCOURSE. I EN THOUGHT I GOT A GOOD DEAL WHEN I BROUGHT THIS 1972 LARSON TRI-HULL BOW-RIDER. MAN I FOUND OUT FAST THE REAL MEANING OF THE WORD (BOAT) "BREAK OUT ANOTHER GRAND"
I CANT EVEN TELL YOUS HOW MANY THINGS WENT WRONG SO FAR. LUCKILY OR MAYBE NOT SO LUCKILY MY SISTER-IN-LAWS BOYFRIEND JUST GRADUATED BOAT ENGINE MECHANIC TRADE SCHOOL. HE HAS HELPED ME KEEP IT RUNNING AND SO FORTH. WE DID HEAD GASKETS, CARBS, CHOKE SOLEIOD, STARTER, AND STARTER SOLEINOD.
ANYWAY I THOUGHT HE NEW WHAT HE WAS DOING, BUT NOW I GOT 2 ISSUSE I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT. THE FIRST IS WHEN WE CHANGED THE HEAD GASKETS WE WELL OBVIOSLY I HAD NO IDEAR BUT EITHER DID HE ABOUT THE WATER PASSAGE RESTRICTORS NEEDING TO BE IN THE CHAMBERS. WE TOOK THE OLD ONES OUT AND "DID NOT" REPLACE THEM!! I BROUGHT THE MANNUAL FOR THE ENGINE (1978 JOHNSON 85) IT CLEARLY SAY'S THAT THOSE RESTRICTORS SHOULD BE IN THERE. I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW IT COULD OVERHEAT WHEN THE PASSAGES ARE MORE CLEAR WITHOUT THE RESTRICTORS!! WELL I WANT TO PUT THEM BACK IN EVENTUALLY, BUT WILL IT HURT TO RUN THE ENGINE A COUPLE TIMES UNTILL I DO???? I WONT RUN IT FULL THROTTLE OBVIOUSLY. OR CAN I??
THE OTHER THING IS AFTER HE TOOK APART THE CARBS AND CLEANED THEM,THEY WORKED FINE, BUT NOW SHE WONT TURN OVER UNLESS I SPRAY GAS/OIL MIX DIRECTLY INTO THE CARBS FIRST. THEN SHE WILL RUN AND TURN OVER AFTER SHUTTING OFF ALL DAY LONG, AS LONG AS I START HER BEFORE LIKE ABOUT 1-1/2 HOUR. "WEIRD" WELL THOSE ARE THE MAJOR 2 THINGS RIGHT NOW..
ANY FEED BACK WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED!!!! I HAVE VOWED TO RESTORE THIS BOAT AT ANY COST. I KNOW I AM CRAZY BUT AT LEAST IT KEEPS ME BUSY AND OUT OF TROUBLE. MAN WITH THE MONEY I PUT INTO IT NOW I COULD HAVE GOT A SWEET RIDE FROM E-BAY. OW-WELL. WHAT GOES AROUND -- COMES AROUND RIGHT..
