1978 Merc 800 80hp tach questions

I am looking at installing a tach for this motor. I bought a cable to plug into the control box, and have the pos neg and signal wires located. Is the signal wire gonna work once the motor starts? I am trying to use a Teleflex MK27 tach for this.

As long as the control has the matching plug and the tach signal wire is in the harness between the motor and control, it should work.

there is a jumper wire on the back of the tach but no labels on it to know, what they are for.
