This engine has not been run in 4 years. I have everything ready to go. My question is does it have to be hooked up to a gas line to see if it turns over and what is the best way to see if it will fire?

Ed

Ed,

You can turn it over without the fuel line hooked up. To see if it fires, use a spray bottle with the proper fuel mixture in it and spray it into the carburator throat. Do not use starter fluid (ether) as it has no lubricant.

Ed, it would be a good idea to add a small amount of oil to the cuylinders through the spark plug holes and roll the engine over slowly by hand a few times to make sure the cylinder are not dry when it fires. You may also want to use a spray type engine cleaner such as Powertune in the cylinders to make sure the rings are not stuck.
