I am pretty new to the outboard community. I have a 1978 mercury model 700, 70hp. the stator wires going the rectifier/regulator were burned. I bought a new stator and rec/reg (on iboats). Through all the foums i read one or something that mentioned that some of these engines had a stator with a "ground" wire and some grounded through the mounting bolts. The one i removed grounded through the mounting bolts. To my question, the new one has a ground wire, as long as i attach to block will this stator work? ps.. i am replaing the rectifier / regulator as well, just in case.

As long as all grd. conectons from the batt. to the block are good, everything should work.
