I am planning to buy this boat. I've been doing some research and the feasibility of doing this as a project.

Before jumping in, can someone ID this engine and outdrive?

Ayuh,... Sure looks like an MC-1 drive, 'n if it's a 350, it'll be a 260 hp, the 228 was the 305 with a 4bbl. carb...

Reinells weren't particularly well built to begin with and that one appears to have been neglected for at least a time. Check CAREFULLY for rot!

Thanks guys for the inputs. I just found out that the engine was a Chevy 350. It was replaced in 2002 as identified by tazrig.

And the last time they run the boat was 2yrs ago. The boat needs a lot of cosmetic work and I am not sure about the engine. Owner said it needs just the spark plugs change. But I am not sure about the condition of engine.

Here is the whole picture of the boat. What do you think is the right price for this boat?

based on what i see in the pictures, it needs more than "just plugs"

full tune-up, change fluids, pull n pressure test the drive, check alignment, check bellows, etc...

if you really want the boat have a reputable shop do a mechanical inspection

Now the $6ooo,ooo question, what kind of shape are the stringers in? 9 chances out of 10 they are rotten!

the side windows leak in all the way to the transom so start tearing everything out and buy a lot of epoy resin cause its going to be a lot of work

That boat is worth no more than the gamble of how much the engine and drive are worth. So... I would say $1500-2500 tops.

Re: 1978 Reinell 26feet

I'm currently rebuilding one of these in the UK. Engine compartment bulkhead was rotten. Push hand in and pull out mush! This had travelled through the stringers and ended just before the midships half bulkhead. Aluminium fuel tank was completely perforated and scrapped. Have replaced bulkhead and stringers and built new fuel tank into hull using high performance diesel proof resins. So far have totally redesigned and refitted mid-cabin and am currently preparing topsides for epoxy coating and painting. Planning to over-power with a 250hp Hyundai Seasall V6 diesel and Bravo 3x leg. All new stainless portlights to replace plastic windows, Garmin electronics, Eberspacher diesel hot air heater, Fridge, ice maker, Fusion stereo, Dek-King (like Tek-Dek) decking inside and out. It is true to say that this will be a very different boat when complete.
Cheers, Peter
