HI everyone .. first time here ... I have a 1978 hydrasport 18 ft bass boat with a '78 1150 EL 6 cyl. 2 cycle motor on it. The tower of power as I have found out so far on the net. I have (3)WMK-18 carbs and this thing is hard to start. I have found some info as to them being a side bowl back drag carb. Anyone that can give me sites or info on these carbs I would greatly appreciate it. I want to rebuild them and also understand and know the theory of how they work. I also would like to find parts numbers as well. I cannot find the jets and idle mixture screw listed anywhere.

Thank you. Mr. M

first off, you should not have to do anything to the jets, carb cleaner and compressed air will clean them out. you can remove the idle mixture screw and inspect the tip, use a magnifing glass to see how well the taper is, if you see a groove in the tip then it will need to be replaced. Go to crowleymarine.com for your parts, if iboats can't get them for you

Re: 1978 wmk-18 carb

I took the top of the fuel bowl this evening ... there are two holes leading into the bowl at the top. One had a nipple for a tube, and the other was just a threaded hole. Found out both lead into the bowl. I blew into each hole and air exited into bowl. So, I got a 10-32 screw and plugged the threaded hole and put a tube from the nipple across to the other side of the carb.

So, will this reduce the atom. pressure and lean out my air/fuel ratio ?

Oh, what is a "dissy" on my motor ?

Mr. M.
