How do you tell if the switch box on this particular model has gone completely bad?<br />It looks like it got too hot and melted the plastic, but I don't know how to test it. Any ideas?

If the motor is running poorly (or not at all) and your switchbox is melted - I'd guess there to start. In my experience electronics contain magic smoke. They never work the same after you let the smoke out.<br /><br />-W
